Police officers in America's big cities have some of the toughest jobs in the world: drug addicts, the criminally insane, stick-up men and gang bangers are their constant companions. Every now and then, though, you run up against cases where police officers appear to be worse than the scum they arrest. After being accused or convicted of shooting unarmed civilians, hiding evidence and planting weapons on innocent victims, the New Orleans Police Department is an unfortunate example of this abuse of power.
