No Christmas For Millions Of American Families This Year | Pakalert Press

No Christmas For Millions Of American Families This Year | Pakalert Press

For millions of American families, there will be no Christmas this year. The sad truth is that an increasing number of families simply do not have money for Christmas presents or any other luxuries right now. The number of Americans that fell into poverty set a new all-time record last year and extreme poverty is at the highest level ever measured in the United States. This Christmas, a lot of American families will be deciding whether to spend the little money that they do have on food, heat or medicine. All over America, the poor are getting poorerand each year the economic pain seems to get even worse. But there are also many American families that will have no Christmas this year for other reasons. Some are just sick and tired of all of the materialism that is involved in Christmas. Others are trying to be “politically correct” and don’t want to offend anyone. There are even a growing number of Americans that areChristians but that believe that Christians should not celebrate Christmas for spiritual reasons. Once upon a time, Christmas was pretty much considered to be a nearly universal holiday in the United States, but that just is not the case anymore. There are millions upon millions of Americans that simply will not be celebrating Christmas at all this year.

A Very Scary Christmas And An Incredibly Frightening New Year | Pakalert Press

A Very Scary Christmas And An Incredibly Frightening New Year | Pakalert Press
Can you hear that? It almost sounds like a little bit of peace and quiet. This year, the holiday season has been fairly uneventful, and for that we should be very grateful. But it isn’t going to last long. 2012 is going to be a much more difficult year for the U.S. economy and the global financial system than 2011 has been. So if things are going well for you right now, enjoy this little bubble of peace and tranquility while you can. Because while things may look calm on the surface right now, the truth is that this is a very scary Christmas for financial professionals and world leaders. Most of them know how fragile theglobal financial system is at the moment. Most of them know that we are living in the greatest bubble of debt, leverage and financial risk that the world has ever seen. As I wrote about the other day, world leaders would not be throwing huge bailouts aroundlike crazy if everything was going to be just fine. The truth is that we are rapidly approaching another financial crisis that may end up being even worse than the horrific crash of 2008.

New Orleans "We are at war in New Orleans"

New Orleans "We are at war in New Orleans"
Officials in Louisiana are calling for National Guard troops on the
streets of New Orleans.

Having found a very sad story indeed, the shooting death of a
toddler caught in the cross-fire of a few armed thugs, Louisiana
lawmakers are seizing upon the opportunity to call for the military
occupation of an American city.

Some may think I over state the case, but you might recall that the
last time New Orleans had troops on the streets was after Hurricane
Katrina and they went door-to-door confiscating LEGALLY owned
firearms.

Didn't we go through this with Iraq?

I can't imagine people falling for this AGAIN.

More than ten years later, a U.S. judge claims Iran was complicit
in the attacks of September 11th 2001. This, at a time when our
government and every presidential candidate, besides Ron Paul,
appears desperate to go to war with Iran over their nuclear program.

It's simply unbelievable..

The move is expected to eliminate about 28,000 jobs and increase the distance that mail must travel between post offices and processing centers. It would be the first reduction in delivery standards for first-class mail in 40 years.

The researcher said it wasn't clear Tuesday how the images were spreading.

The Middle East Nothing has changed in post-revolutionary Egypt

The Middle East Nothing has changed in post-revolutionary Egypt

No change in post-revolution Egypt

Journalists for Human Rights

Earlier in January thousands of Egyptians took to the streets of Cairo and camped out in Tahrir Square for 18 days. They demanded the ouster of their president, Hosni Mubarak. Although the protests began peacefully, the streets of Cairo saw clashes between protestors and security forces. According to an article in the BBC last July, an estimated 846 people died during those 18 days and 6,000 were injured.

On Feb.11 Mubarak resigned from his post, ending his 30 year reign.Thousands celebrated their accomplishment after that day. However the road ahead of Egypt was not without its problems. In fact nine months later some activists are saying not much has changed in Egypt after the revolution.

Human rights violations, mismanagement of the transitional period, fragmentation of political forces, are some of the main features of politics in Egypt after its revolution, some Egyptian activists said.

“The army is mismanaging the transition stage and wasting precious time,” said Said Sadek, a Political Sociology professor in the American University in Cairo, “Army generals want to secure their rights and interests in the future Egypt.”

Immediately after ousting Mubarak, on Feb. 11, the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) declared it adopted protesters’ demands and it would hand over the power after six months to a democratically elected president.

However the current ruling council was reluctant in answering protesters’ demands, so demonstrators thronged, almost every Friday, in Tahrir square reminding, at first, the SCAF of its promises, and eventually urging it to step down.

On Sunday Oct. 9, armoured vehicles sped into a crowd of protesters, mostly Coptic Christians, to crack down on protests near Cairo’s state television. At least 25 people were killed, according to Reuters. Online videos showed vehicles hitting protesters and mashing them.

This was the worst violence seen since ousting Mubarak and it infuriated Egypt’s Coptic Christians. It also fostered public’s doubt of military’s ability to steer the country peacefully towards democracy.

According to a report by Human Rights Watch last September the military council tried until now up to 12,000 civilians in military tribunals. Their sentences varied from months to years.

“The old regime is still controlling the state,” said Mahmoud Abdelreheem, a political activist and freelance journalist,“The military council is composed of Mubarak’s men who do not want a radical change.”

Abdelreheem lamented also on the freedom of media saying “media is still pursuing the same old regime’s doctrine, official media is controlled by the junta and private media is owned by Mubarak’s loyalists.”

Although political forces have become more active since ousting Mubarak, they are rather fragmented, said Ashraf Rady, a political analyst and activist.

“The revolution did not lead to a substantial change in the political landscape,” Rady said, “The political forces are still divided into four main political camps, the national, the Islamic, the socialist, and the liberal, but new forces emerged in the last three camps.”

He added “Salafist [hardline Islamist] became more powerful in the Islamic camp…the Coptic began political mobilization by declaring their support for the liberal parties bloc.”

Rady also said that the Muslim Brotherhood Group have gone through furious conflicts in its pursuit of a central role in the new political system. They wanted to assure their political domination but it suffered from dwindling support after the emergence of new forces within the Islamic political camp.

“The fragmentation of political camps, the conflict between them and their pursuit to seize political clout may lead political life to slip into a degree of instability.”Rady

Sadek, who sent his comments by email as well as the other activists, early in October , said if the army generals, Islamists, secularists and liberal Coptics reached a deal, “there will be a democracy.”If not, chaos will prevail for some time before one force takes over,”he added.

Months after the world saw them joyously hoisting their red, black and white flag in the air, Egyptians are still working to achieve democracy and stability in their country.

“It is very hard to forecast the future of political life in Egypt because of the lack of transparency,”said Abdelreheem , “ Indicators do not point out to a real democratic change and the socio-economic base of the population may not change soon which may lead to a deep disappointment.”

Is the Government Trying to Kill the Internet?

DigitalMediaWire:

New legislation proposed today raises all kinds of demons and specters that have nothing to do with Halloween. The STOP Online Piracy Act, introduced Wednesday by leaders of the House Judiciary Committee and a companion to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s proposed Protect IP Act, instantly ignited heated arguments both for and against. The entertainment industry is broadly on one side, supporting the law’s provisions. Generally on the anti side is an array of groups that advocate on behalf of individual liberties, the technology industry and other interests. Not only is there no middle ground, there’s a vast turbulent ocean keeping the sides apart.

SOPA (HR 3261) is an attempt to tackle websites and addresses that violate U.S. copyright laws but have no physical presence in the country by making them invisible and strangling their income. It requires Internet service providers to block access to them; search engines to omit them from results; credit card and other financial services to disallow payments to them; and everyone from advertising on them.

What it doesn’t require is any kind of verification that the site is actually infringing...

BROTHERS IN STRUGGLE: MEN WHO FIGHT FOR THE DEMOCRACY OF THE MASSES, NOT DEMOCRACY OF BIG CORPORATIONS AND BANKSTERS

"You know the magnitude of the conspiracy against my country," Chavez read from Gaddafi's letter. "Your criteria has been clear and explicit, we hope to continue with the strength of that support."

Popular democratic President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, with popular democracy advocate Muammar Qaddafi of Africa

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday read excerpts of a letter sent to him by Libya's Muammar Gaddafi expressing gratitude for strong support during the NATO-backed rebellion against his government.

"You know the magnitude of the conspiracy against my country," Chavez read from Gaddafi's letter. "Your criteria has been clear and explicit, we hope to continue with the strength of that support."

Chavez only read parts of the message, which was handed to his foreign minister in Caracas by Libyan Finance Minister Abdulhafid Zlitni.

"Long live Muammar Gaddafi," Chavez said in a televised address before lashing out at Western powers for recognizing the rebel National Transition Council.

"NATO is an embarrassment," he said, sporting a newly close-shaved haircut after chemotherapy treatments for cancer.

"We do not recognize the pantomime of transition that violates and destroys the basis of international law."

Holding firm despite growing international isolation and crippling financial sanctions, Gaddafi has sought to play on potential divisions by calling on tribes and soldiers in rebel-controlled areas to rise up and free their cities.

The Venezuelan leader warmly received Gaddafi two years ago on a rare trip to the Americas, and the two cemented their bonds of friendship as well as enhanced cooperation commitments between the two independent nations both of which are targeted by US-NATO imperialism.

Imprisoned nearly 30 years for a rape he didn’t commit, Henry James Jr. said he never lost hope he would be freed, even when an exhaustive search at a Jefferson Parish crime lab for potentially exculpatory DNA evidence came up empty. “If you lose hope, you lose everything,” said James, 50. “I kept praying and telling myself, ‘It’s going to be alright. God is going to make a way for you.’”
