On the morning of September 11, 2001, Mary Catherine Kelly, a national security policy analyst, left home not knowing within 3 short hours her life would be turned upside down. Her professional and personal lives would never be the same. While watching the morning events unfold in New York City on the television in her Pentagon office, Mary Catherine’s immediate supervisor informed the office that they would go into high security emergency mode as soon as Mary Catherine and Bonnie returned from their meeting about how to protect and defend military installations in the event of either a terrorist attack (man-made) or natural disaster . More than likely most of Mary Catherine’s immediate Pentagon colleagues would not be going home within the next 24 hours.
