Research conducted by the Annie E. Casey Foundationshows child poverty in the US has increased from 2000 – 2009, with 38 states being particularly hard hit, according to a national study to be published this week. The report also noted that 14.7 million children, 20 percent, were poor in 2009 – a 2.5 million increase from 2000, when 17 percent of U.S. youth resided in low-income conditions.
